Corrosion is most often defined as the electrochemical destruction of metallic materials by reaction with their environment. Since electrochemistry deals with the interaction of electricity and chemical change, corrosion is the destructive chemical change of a metal or alloy which either causes or is caused by the flow of an electrical current.
